In an interview to Goal.com Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney wished to see Steven Gerrard to play with him from Manchester United club.

In reply to Hamisi from Kenya’s question: “Which player in the world would you like to see in a Manchester United shirt?”

Rooney said: “It’s not for me to say because that’s the manager’s job, to bring the best players to Manchester United. But I’ve played with some great players in the past and would have loved to have played with some legends of the game.”

“Steven Gerrard is a very good mate of mine and he had trials at Manchester United as a kid, it would have been great to have had him at United, but that will never happen because he’s a Liverpool man through and through. He’s a top-class player.”

In reply to another question He rated England’s captain John Terry as the toughest defender he played against.

Regarding a question about his son joining Liverpool club: “How would you feel if your son said that he would like to be a Liverpool fan?”

Rooney said: My family are all Evertonians and I also grew up as an Evertonian. We all grew up absolutely hating Liverpool and that will never change. So my son will have plenty of positive influences around him [laughs].

Rafa Benitez while speaking to reporters Rafa said, “Cristiano Ronaldo is a great player, but I would not say he is the best in the world”. on other hand he said, “Gerrard and Torres combination is most dangerous in world”.

Cristiano Ronaldo was voted the FIFA World Player of the Year in 2008 after an outstanding season with Manchester United that saw him bag 42 goals in all competitions.

When asked about Ronaldo, Rafa Benitez said, “He is a great player, but I would not say he is the best in the world. Kaka is also there at the top, and Messi and Wayne Rooney and I believe we have two that can also be among the best in the world, Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres.”

“Gerrard is more dangerous playing behind Torres, who is also better with Gerrard behind him. I remember the Liverpool of John Toshack and Kevin Keegan, of Kenny Dalglish and Ian Rush and the last time we won the title with John Barnes Peter Beardsley. Gerrard and Torres can be like them.

Rafa added, “For me, our strength will always be in the team, but it is also true that sometimes players win matches, and that great footballers can win important matches”.

“We know Aquilani will need a month or so, but I think that with Javier Mascherano, Lucas, Steven Gerrard and Damien Plessis we have enough depth,” Benitez said.

After the loss of Michael Owen in his prime, there is suddenly a dearth of high-class England strikers and for Capello, this is where Rooney and Gerrard come in. These two players are paid a fortune by their clubs, but you know that whether for Manchester United or Liverpool, or for England, they will fight for the shirt.

The way that Gerrard has played this season and even before, people are starting to conclude beyond any doubt that the free role through the centre is his best position.

Perhaps Capello has seen how Gerrard has flourished at Liverpool since the arrival of Fernando Torres.

While Rooney is no whippet like Torres, he complements Gerrard in a different way. The close friendship between the pair certainly helps as well.
