Rafa Benitez is pleased to see Steven Gerrard is almost ready to have a vital impact on the Reds season. Steven Gerrard has struggled with injury this season and has not been able to put together his momentum and form.

Rafa Benitez told Liverpool official website, He said: “Steven has worked very hard. He did well on Tuesday but you could see in two or three of the runs that he made that he didn’t quite have the match fitness that you need. But he was trying all the time and he kept taking good positions. Clearly he will bring a lot to the team when he is fully fit.”

Rafa continued: “We know that he is going to give us different options. We played with Alberto Aquilani as a second striker against Tottenham and we can play Steven in that role.”

“When you play him in that role, he is different because he can get into the box but he also has great deliveries from set-pieces which will help too. We have different players with different skills and that is going to be good for the team going forward until the end of the season.”

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard admitted that Liverpool wasn’t performed good this season and now they must concentrate on qualifying for next year’s Champions League after failing to make it through the group stages.

29-year-old Liverpool Captain told Sky Sports: “We gave a good account of ourselves, we were unlucky to lose the game in the end but if you look at the whole campaign it was not good enough from our point of view. Now we need to qualify for the same competition next year.”

Gerrard continued: “Every time you play for Liverpool there is something in the game because you are playing in front of your own supporters so you have to give it everything you have got. We understood before the game there was not much in it for us as far as points were concerned and points on the table it was all about trying to get this game out the way and trying to get good preparation for Arsenal.”
