Rafael Benitez, Liverpool Manager believes Steven Gerrard should be crowned PFA Player of the Year. The Reds skipper has stiff competition with Manchester United pair Nemanja Vidic and Ryan Giggs for the award. But Benitez believes his skipper is currently playing the best football of his career and should be recognized.
Gerrard has scored 21 goals in 38 appearances for Liverpool this season, including a hat trick in last weekend’s 5-0 rout of Aston Villa. Steven Gerrard, who led Liverpool to the quarter-finals of the Champions League, defeating Real Madrid in the last sixteen.
“He would be my vote,” admitted Benitez. “If he can continue playing at this level then why not?”
“For me Stevie is one of the best players in the world. To say one is the best above anyone else is difficult because there are a lot of quality players about, but he is one of the best. That is clear”.
“He is more mature, he is still learning and tactically he is improving. He can still play better because he has the potential. He has quality and always tries to improve in every training session”.
“That is very positive. You know when he is on the pitch you have more options to win.”
