England’s midfielder and Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard claimed England have “unfinished business” with croatia after admitting he is still haunted by England defeat against Croatia in November 2007.

Last night while speaking to reporters 29-year-old worlds best attacking mid-fielder admitted that was worst night of his career. Croatia beat England at Wembley and due to that England dumped out of Euro 2008. That night cost Steve McClaren his job as England boss.

Gerrard, who was captain on that day, says: “The whole squad are fired up to gain revenge on Slaven Bilic’s Croatia and clinch World Cup qualification on Wednesday night.”

He added: “There is unfinished business for all of us. It hurt. We still remember the feeling we felt afterwards in the dressing room. We remember the result and will use it to motivate ourselves on Wednesday. If you can’t get motivated to beat a team to get to the World Cup then you’ve got a problem.”

“It [losing to Croatia] was definitely my lowest moment in an England shirt. It has taken a long time to get over it. I am still not over it now. I don’t think I will be over it until we get that qualification under our belts on Wednesday.”

Fabio Capello has inspired England to a record-breaking World Cup qualification campaign and they enjoyed another morale-boosting win over Slovenia on Saturday.

But Gerrard added: “It is always nice to win. They are really similar to Croatia in the way they play. It was a good test for us but the ’cup final’ comes on Wednesday. We always knew in this get-together the most important game was Wednesday and it was just important we got out there against Slovenia and got a win for confidence.”
