Steven Gerrard is among four England player who are nominated for FIFA Player of The Year Award 2009. Other English players who have been shortlisted are Striker Wayne Rooney, Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard and England Captian John Terry.

Liverpool striker Fernando Torres is also among the nominees. Fernando Torres with Steven Gerrard has played an important role for liverpool last year.

23-men shortlist announced yesterday along with 10-women. Kelly Smith is in contention for the FIFA Women’s World Player 2009 Award.

The Real Madrid and Portugal forward Christiano Ronaldo, who won the award last year, is among the nominees again, Christiano Ronaldo alongside Barcelona’s Lionel Messi are the favourites this year.

The final decision will be made by the Captains and Head Coaches of the men’s and women’s national teams and the winners will be announced in Zurich on Monday 21 December 2009.
