steven gerrard gets delighted

Steven Gerrard and all of Steven Gerrard fans get delight after Steven Gerrard was found not guilty of affray today. The Liverpool captain was cleared of unjustly attacking Marcus McGee, 34, in a Southport bar last December. Jury accepted his explanation that it was in self-defence.

Hundreds of Steven Gerrard fans greeted him outside the city’s Crown Court and shouts of “come on Rocky” on his way out of court. Stevie G admitted he was a relieved man.

He said, “Can I just say how pleased I am with today’s verdict. I had like to put this case behind me. I’m really looking forward to the season ahead and concentrating on football. I’d like to say a big thank you to my legal team, my friends and family and to everyone at Liverpool Football Club for supporting me.’

Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez admitted he was happy to hear the outcome of the high-profile case. “We are really pleased. He is very important for us and he can now focus just on football. We are all pleased at the club and over here at the training camp”. Benitez said.

He added, “We have been supporting him all the time and were just waiting for the decision. Now he can concentrate just on football and hopefully play at the same level as last year.”

The trial heard that Gerrard, 29, was with friends including Anfield legend Kenny Dalglish, 58, at the time of the incident at the Lounge Inn at Southport, Merseyside, when Gerrard and associates clashed with McGee over control of a CD player.

The prosecution had said Gerrard, from Formby, Merseyside, became furious that his request was refused and “lost it”, punching Mr McGee “with the style and speed of a professional boxer”.

Liverpool captain Gerrard denied affray, saying he believed McGee was about to assault him, and acted in self-defence.

The 29-year-old Liverpool captain and England’s best attacking midfielder was the only one of seven defendants to be cleared over the “explosion of violence” as Judge Henry Globe QC, the Recorder of Liverpool, described the event.
