In an interview with reporters Steven Gerrard feared that 2010 FIFA worldcup could be his last chance to win the Worldcup. Liverpool Captain and England midfielder praised 35-year-old former England Captain, David Beckham, The way he has fought his way back to play top-level football in Serie A with AC Milan and regained his place in the national squad.
Gerrard said, “Hopefully, we will qualify for the World Cup. I will be 30 when it comes round. For me it will be the last chance of doing well at a World Cup, so that’s my motivation. I’m hoping to go into the next one in my prime and very strong. I’m not sure I will be in that shape come 34!”
Gerrard added with a smile on question about Beckham, “Yes, but he’s Beckham isn’t he! David is in fantastic condition. He’s certainly a role model for me and if I could be in his shape at his age I would love nothing better than to give the World Cup another go. So you never know.”
“But I won’t be taking any risks and will try to get to one more World Cup. You don’t look too far ahead as a player. I love playing football and I would love to play as long as I can for Liverpool and England. But I’m concentrating on Kazakhstan, not another four years down the line. “

Unconnected but interesting, if we consider that only Brazil has been able to claim victory at the Fifa World Cup outside of its own continent – what could that mean for the World Cup in South Africa?
