Steven Gerrard scored twice in his 100th European game to destroy Real Madrid in Champions League. Liverpool beat Real Madrid by 4-0.
The win marked Real Madrid’s biggest ever defeat in the competition, and sees the Reds advance to the quarter-finals.
“For the first 30 minutes we were awesome,”Gerrard told ITV.
“I think we got the job done in the first-half and the second-half was just about seeing it out and we managed to get another couple of goals and everyone is really pleased.
“The second half was about seeing it out and fortunately, we were able to score a couple more goals.”
Liverpool may be maddeningly inconsistent in the Barclays Premier League, but they remain formidable in Europe and no one will want to be paired with them.
Liverpool trail Premier League leaders Manchester United by seven points – and have played a game more – but could close the gap as they face their north-west rivals at Old Trafford on Sunday.
“First and foremost, it’s about enjoying tonight,” Gerrard said.
“We need to get some rest, get some treatment, then we can concentrate on Manchester United.
“It’s going to be a difficult game. They are a fantastic team, but we are confident after tonight and we know we can give it our best shot.”
