Liverpool made 9 changes in 0-1 defeated game against Rapid Vienna

Liverpool lost their first pre-season friendly match against Austrian club Rapid Vienna by 0-1. Match was played on sunday to celebrate austrian club’s 110th birthday in front of 50,000 crowd at Ernst Happel stadium.
Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez named a side that was a mixture of youth and experience. Reds were without new signing Glen Johnson after the defender is reported to have picked up an Achilles knock during the sides’ recent goalless draw to St Gallen and Liverpool’s Spanish boys were also reported to be present in the stadium but were not considered for action by boss Benitez due to their recent Confederations Cup campaign.
Liverpool didn’t played bad in first half with many attempt on goals in first half especially by Stefan Hoffman, Emiliano Insua and Erwin Hoffer. Benitez made nine changes for the second half, with Insua and Phillip Degen the only remaining players from the starting line-up.
German midfielder Steffen Hofmann scored the game’s only goal in second half when he impressively curled in a free-kick in from just outside Liverpools area. Reds fought back somewhat, with Dirk Kuyt and Yossi Benayoun going close, but were unable to find an equalizer.
Liverpool now travel to Asian tour where they will play Thailand and then Singapore. Steven Gerrard will miss the Asian tour due to his court hearings.
