Liverpool can go on top of the table after winning the game against Arsenal tonight. Even a draw would also take them to top of the premier League on goal difference but liverpool will have played two more games than Manchester United.
Liverpool assistant manager Sammy Lee stood said, “We have a healthy respect for Arsenal and we know it is going to be a very difficult game. We don’t prepare for failure, we know what we have to get out of each game, none more so than in these last six games.”
Arsenal head to Anfield looking to extend their unbeaten Premier League run to 19 matches.
Liverpool will be missing captain Steven Gerrard who needs at least another seven days to recover from a groin injury. Although that absence will be a blow, Benitez is pleased that squad players are hitting form at the right time to boost the Reds’ run-in.
Arsenal will be without leading scorer Robin van Persie and striker Emmanuel Adebayor. Keeper Manuel Almunia and defenders Gael Clichy, William Gallas and Johan Djourou are also sidelined.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger wants his team to remain focused and finish the season off in style. He said “We have many big games coming up and we feel we can win them. Winning is what we live for. We want to get closer to the top and have a good opportunity to come back to six points on Liverpool. Third place is important and you never know.”
With Liverpool having just six matches left, Benitez accepts his team can simply not afford any more slip-ups.
