Inspiring Liverpool Captain Steven Gerrard refuses to give up for title hope and is very confident that Liverpool can still win the Barclays Premier League.
Liverpool is leading the table with 71 points (equalent to Manchester United 71 points) due to their better goal difference to United. However, Manchester United have two games in hand to restore their league leader status.
The versatile midfielder told Daily Mail, “United have a fantastic team and you look at their run-in, look to see where they are going to drop points it would have been very difficult if we’d lost the game.”
“But that point could be big. We’ll have to wait and see how big it could be for us. Performance-wise, at times we were very good. Torres and Benayoun were frightening going forward. It’s not like us to concede that many goals like we have tonight. We’re normally sound defensively, especially at home.”
Gerrard acknowledged that their run-in would be reliant on other clubs giving them a helping hand, “Now we need United to get beaten which is difficult to do because they’re a good team. But I still believe there will be twists and turns in this title race.”
Steven Gerrard who is suffering from his strained adductor muscle is likely to miss Saturday’s Premier League trip to Hull City.
Liverpool Manager Rafa Benítez told reporters, “It’s always disappointing when Stevie isn’t in the team but we have won games without him and played well without him at times this season. We have quality in the squad and I am sure we can still play nice football, score goals and win games, whoever is in the team.”
