Police announced yesterday a man named Martin Wilson, 22 has been charged with burglary and robbery at the Steven Gerrard’s mension in Formby. Its been reported Martin Wilson will appear at North Sefton Magistrates Court on October 30.
Gorgeous Alex Curran, was confronted by a gang of men on December 11, 2007 while her husband was playing in Liverpool’s Champions League tie away to French club Olympique Marseille.
Fortunately Curran was not injured in the raid which saw the masked offenders make off with items of jewellery.
The raid on the Liverpool midfielder and captain’s home is one in a series of burglaries at footballers’ properties while they have been in action for club or country in recent years.
In 2006, James Birch, from Tuebrook, Liverpool was jailed for burglaries at the homes of former Liverpool players Jerzy Dudek, Peter Crouch and Florent Sinama-Pongolle, as well as the club’s current defender Daniel Agger. Birch was also guilty of robbing the homes of neighbouring Everton players Andy van der Meyde and Tony Hibbert.
More recently, Liverpool players Dirk Kuyt, Pepe Reina and Lucas have also been targeted.
