One of oldest Liverpool fan, Dorothy Hearn, great-grandmother celebrated her 101st birthday with a special trip to Anfield and a meeting with her favorite clubs skipper Steven Gerrard. Liverpool Football Club supporter, Dorothy Hearn from Hartland watched the club’s last game of the season from the directors’ box.
She said, “It was marvellous and the football club were wonderfully good to me. They put me in a beautiful seat and I had a clear view of everything. The best part of the day was Liverpool scoring. Steven Gerrard signed my programme, which was fantastic.”
Dorothy’s grandson Tim Hookway, who organised and went on the trip said his gran had never been to Anfield, but always loved football. He said, “She watches Match of the Day, without fail every week she just loves it. She loves, Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard he is her absolute hero, so to meet him was fantastic.”
“We were treated like Royalty at Anfield and we were very privileged to be there. Gran was just smiling constantly.”
Dorothy also got to meet Phil Neal who she remembered watching in four European finals in the late 70s and early 80s and Ian Callaghan who holds the title of the most Liverpool first team appearances — in the FA cup and league.
The football fan was delighted when she turned 100 last May and received not only a card from the Queen, but a signed photograph of Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez.
